Livingston NJ is now offering a jitney service for local residents. The service is scheduled to begin at the Livingston Mall where parking is free and continue Monday to Friday from (5:00 am to 9:00 am) and evening hours from around (4:00 pm to 9:00 pm), but the final schedule has not been solidified. The Jitney service is scheduled to begin sometime after labor day travel. The township has originally planned to have 2 round trips per hour beginning at the Livingston Mall and continuing into the South Orange Train Station. The cost for the jitney will be $2.00 and a monthly pass will be available for $70.00.
Livingston currently has offered a midtown direct bus, Community Coach from the Livingston Mall on South Orange Avenue. Local residents who were interested in train service had to drive to the West Orange Arena and jump on the West Orange Jitney into the South Orange or the Orange Train Station. Now Livingston offers direct service into the Morris/ Essex Train Lines, a considerable decrease in morning commute time for sure. The train commute from South Orange is about 30 minutes into midtown add on a 15 minute jitney ride and Manhattan is still less than 60 minutes away..Not bad for a Northern New Jersey town with excellent schools, fantastic community activities for the whole family and beautiful architecture.
