South Orange is a small village averaging about 17,000 in population and 2.9 square miles in size. The community is well known for its early 1900’s architecture, demographic diversity, love for the arts and easy commute into Manhattan.
The town shares many recreational services as well as a school district with its neighboring town, Maplewood. South Orange is also well known as a transportation hub for Northern New Jersey towns. Neighboring Livingston and West Orange transport local residents via jitney service to the South Orange Train Stations. The New York City commute is 30 minutes from South Orange.

South Orange Rentals

South Orange Architecture
Most of South Orange architecture is single-family wood framed houses but South Orange Homes cover a range that includes every common style of the Mid-Atlantic United States. Large Tudors, Victorians, and Colonials mark the historic Montrose Section. Located on the east side of Seton Hall University is a small neighborhood Tuxedo Park which was built primarily between 1920-1929. Homes in this South Orange Neighborhood are more midsize with smaller lots but similar in architecture to which is found in the Montrose Neighborhood. 85 percent of its houses were built from the late 1800s to the 1930s and a large portion of South Orange Homes are on the federal and state Registries of Historic Places. South Orange Neighborhoods
Further up the mountain one has the choice of expanded Ranches and more Modern Contemporaries in the Newstead Neighborhood, which borders the South Mountain Reservation. The Wyoming Neighborhood runs north and south throughout the town along Wyoming Ave and is well known for its mini estates which range from brick English Tudors and Cottages to giant French Style Mansard-Roofed Mansions. There are a few South Orange Condominium from various eras as well as an upscale townhouse-style community called “The Manor” which average 5000 sf of living space, finished basements and a few block walk to South Orange Shopping.
